Alto saxophone and piano
"New Wave" is built from musical materials which are similar to many of the extended harmonies and modal structures found in jazz. The first movement is set in a driving 6/8 rhythm with extensive imitative counterpoint between the saxophone and the piano. The middle movement begins with a short cadenza-like passage from the saxophone leading to transparent ethereal presentation of themes, followed by a heavy, dark section. The final movement gradually builds to a dramatic, optimistic conclusion with an infectious, driving rhythm.Medium advanced

This is a quality work, well-crafted, but always emotional. It is challenging, but playable, well-suited for students. It conveys a strong message to a variety of audiences. (David Demsey, Saxophone Journal)
