Recorded by Charlie Parker
Arranged by Jimmy Carroll, Edited by Jeffrey Sultanof
This arrangement was done by Jimmy Carroll for the first studio session that Charlie Parker did featuring strings (1949). It was not recorded in the studio; however, Parker performed it several times over the following years including his famous Carnegie Hall concert in 1950. The instrumentation on this one is for oboe, 3 violins, 1 viola, cello, harp, guitar, piano, bass, and drums. The original arrangement called for the oboe to double English horn. However, on the parts the oboeist wrote in the pitches for the oboe as he avoided the double. So, we have included two different oboe parts - one with the double on English horn, and one without. This has been completely edited and engraved from the original score and parts. Harp pedaling has been included.
