Book by Bert Ligon. One of the goals of teaching jazz improv is to have the students play rhythmically coherent and harmonically specific lines, but since most students come to study with little ability to play beyond rhythmically and harmonically vague lines, a method of study is needed which points out the linear-horizontal connections inherent in the bulk of jazz material, especially the solo/improv work of the greats. This is a highly recommended book.
